'People are afraid' - the reasons 'powerhouse' Arsenal have become the team to beat.

There's little doubt why Arsenal have become many people's top picks to win the Premier League this season.

Examine their results against West Ham and Crystal Palace compared to those same matches during the prior term.

The Gunners have beaten all of them in the current season, but surrendered 10 points across those games as they fell away in the title race last season.

Defensive Prowess

Arsenal's defensive solidity is a key reason why they are looking well positioned to finally fulfil their title ambition.

They stand first for shutouts (6), goals conceded (3), shots faced (72), shots on target faced (19) and expected goals against (5.3).

The center-back duo of Gabriel and William Saliba is arguably the strongest in the league, with Arsenal recording a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Dead-Ball Excellence

Their threat from set-pieces is highly documented, but competing clubs still don't know how to contain the Gunners from these situations.

They have scored 11 times from set-pieces in the league, a couple extra than any other side, with 69% of their goals resulting from these situations.

"Arsenal can do a bit of everything now. The whole team has a intimidation presence. People are just wary of them and it is excellent to see."

Championship Credentials

What is especially remarkable about Arsenal's beginning to the campaign is they have also encountered Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United away from home and Manchester City on home turf - and are still leading by four at the top.

While they keep winning, their historic competitors aren't faring so well. This marks the premier instance at this juncture of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The pressure was on manager Mikel Arteta at the outset, having invested around £250m on eight summer additions in pursuit of that long-awaited first title since 2004.

But the spending has so far paid off in impressive fashion, with his side one of the most prolific attacks in the league and possessing the most resilient defense, despite multiple injuries.

  • Clean sheets in each of their last three Premier League games
  • Nearly 6.5 hours without letting in a goal
  • Only a trio of goals in 12 games across every tournament

Former players and pundits have described Arteta's men as a "unstoppable force, looking difficult to stop" with the whole club now functioning with belief and determination.
